I just think that people are so weird about nudity and the human body. Sex is not bad, naked bodies are not bad and naked bodies don’t always have to be connected to sex.

The is a lion in my living room. I feed it raw meat
so it does not hurt me. It is a strange thing
to nourish what could kill you
in the hopes it does not kill you.
We have lived like this, it and I, for so many years.
Sometimes it feels like we have always lived like this.
Sometimes I think I have always been like this.

This shot is an example of how knowing how to properly edit your photos makes a huge difference. I took this photo when when I was relatively new to photography; I’d only been shooting in earnest for about two years. I was in Ireland on a month-long trip around Europe and really loved this vista, but when I got back and edited it, I ruined it. I crushed the highlights in the sky, didn’t crop it well, and made it a low-contrast grey-scale that was really unflattering. Years later, I was going through photos and saw it again and thought, hey, I still have the RAW file, let’s break this baby out. So I did and reprocessed it, this time aiming more to augment the cold, cloudy feel that existed outside when I took the shot. The result? Much better.
Moral of the story: unless it’s clearly unsalvageable, don’t throw anything away. As you grow as an artist, you’ll see old shots in new ways.
